- When you sit on a merry-go-round and it starts turning in an anti-clockwise direction, the objects around you (like trees, buildings, etc.) will appear to be moving.
- These objects will appear to move in the opposite direction to your rotation, i.e., in a clockwise direction.
- If you fix your gaze at a particular tree, it will appear to move from one side of your view, across, and then disappear on the other side, even though the tree itself is stationary.
- This activity demonstrates that when an observer is moving, stationary objects in the surroundings appear to move in the opposite direction. Similarly, the Earth's rotation makes the Sun and stars appear to move across the sky.
