The -self words are myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves and themselves. They point back to the doer, or they stress who did something.

Your child's level and 3 topics to fix first.

All the topics in this chapter, one rule at a time.

- The action returns to the doer . When the doer and the receiver are the same, use a -self word. This is a reflexive pronoun.
- Someone else receives it . If the receiver is a different person, use the plain pronoun, not a -self word.
- To add emphasis . A -self word can stress that the doer did the job alone. This is an emphatic pronoun. The sentence still makes sense without it.
- Match the doer . The -self word must match the doer: yourself for one person, yourselves for many. There is no hisself or theirselves.
- Children, help yourselves to the fruit.
- The boys dried themselves.
- Uncle gave myself a book. → Uncle gave me a book. Someone else receives it
