### More in The Adjective

Short answer. Adjectives can compare. A short word adds er to compare two things: this is the comparative. It adds est to compare three or more: this is the superlative.

1 . Choose the right form. Of all the rivers in India, the Ganga is the ___. (long)

2 . Choose the right spelling. Raju's kitten is the ___ of the litter. (fat)

Adjectives can compare. A short word adds er to compare two things: this is the comparative. It adds est to compare three or more: this is the superlative.

Wrong: This is more easier. Right: This is easier. (Never both together)

Short word: er for two (comparative), est for three or more (superlative).

Your child's level and 3 topics to fix first.

All the topics in this chapter, one rule at a time.

- Comparing two: er . To compare two people or things, add er and use than. With "of the two", also use the er form.
- Three or more: est . To compare three or more, add est and put the before it. Words like of all, in the class or ever often show this.
- Spelling changes before er and est . Some words change their spelling before er or est. Drop a final e. Double one last consonant after one short vowel. Change a consonant plus y to i. Other words just add er or est.
- Words ending in e . A word that already ends in e adds only r or st.
- Doubling the last letter . A short word with one short vowel and one last consonant doubles that consonant.
- Short word: er for two (comparative), est for three or more (superlative).
- Drop the e, double the last letter, change y to i, or just add.
- Long words: more for two, most for three or more. Never more with er.
- Learn these forms by heart: better, worse, farther, less, more.
- This is more easier. → This is easier. Never both together
