E-business refers to conducting business activities, including commerce, industry, and management, using computer networks. It is broader than e-commerce, which covers only buying and selling goods and services online.

The scope of e-business is divided into B2B (business-to-business), B2C (business-to-consumer), intra-B (transactions within a firm), and C2C (consumer-to-consumer). Each category serves distinct operational and market relationships.

E-business offers ease of formation, lower investment requirements, global reach, and a movement towards a paperless society. Its limitations include lack of personal touch, delayed delivery, security concerns, and employee resistance.

An online transaction involves three stages: the pre-purchase stage, the purchase stage involving the placement of order, and the delivery stage. Payment can occur through cash on delivery, cheque, net banking transfer, credit card, debit card, or digital cash.

- Treating e-business and e-commerce as identical terms . Remember that e-business is a broader term encompassing e-commerce alongside internal management functions like inventory, production, and accounting.
- Classifying an online auction between two individuals as B2C . Identify that transactions between two private individuals, such as selling used books or cars on a portal, fall under C2C commerce.
- Confusing debit cards with credit cards . Recall that a debit card immediately deducts funds from the buyer's existing bank balance, whereas a credit card allows the buyer to borrow funds up to a pre-set limit.
