TL;DR. In a board year the honest advice is often not to buy an AI tutor. Most Class 10 Maths marks are lost to speed, presentation and old algebra rather than to Class 10 concepts, and the fix for those is past papers under a clock. A diagnosis-first tool is worth it only if the child genuinely cannot do the underlying algebra, and only if there is still a full term left. The three cases below make the call.

For parents of a CBSE Class 10 student in the 2026-27 session. This page ranks no products, forecasts no board results, and does not describe other companies' prices or features. It is the page on this site most likely to tell you not to buy anything.

This depends more on the calendar than on the child. Class 10 has two different problems that look identical on a pre-board paper: not knowing, and not finishing. They need opposite interventions, and buying the wrong one costs a term you cannot get back.

Case 1. Your child knows the topics and does not finish the paper.

This is the most common Class 10 profile and it is not a tutoring problem. The child is spending their time on Class 8 and 9 algebra inside Class 10 questions: expanding, factorising, handling signs and fractions. The fix is timed practice plus fifteen minutes a day of pure algebraic manipulation. Do not buy a tutor for this; buy past papers and a timer.

Case 2. Your child cannot start certain question types at all, in every paper, all year.

A consistent blank in the same place is a genuine missing prerequisite, not exam nerves. Trigonometry blanks usually trace to Class 8 proportional reasoning, quadratic blanks to Class 9 identities, and application blanks to reading rather than to Maths. Here a diagnosis-first tool earns its place, because it will name the specific earlier idea instead of re-teaching the Class 10 chapter a third time. SwaVid is in this category.

Case 3. You are inside the last eight weeks before boards.

Then stop diagnosing. At that point the correct strategy is scoring: full papers under time, marking scheme discipline, and consolidating what the child already half-knows rather than opening new repairs. We will say this even though it means not selling you anything. Starting a foundation repair in January is the wrong instrument at the wrong time.

The single most useful Class 10 diagnostic is free and takes ninety minutes: give your child a full past paper with a clock and no help, then mark it yourself and sort every lost mark into did not know, knew but too slow, or knew but wrote it badly. The shape of that list decides everything.

As of today, no. For the 2026-27 session Class 10 uses the existing NCERT Mathematics textbook with its familiar fourteen chapters, from Real Numbers through to Probability. This is worth stating explicitly because Classes 6 to 9 have all moved to new NEP-aligned books in recent sessions, and parents of Class 10 students reasonably worry that the book will change in the middle of board preparation.

There is a real consequence for this cohort, though, and it is a stylistic one. Children now in Class 10 have come up through years that were progressively rewritten to reward reasoning, justification and open-ended exploration, and they arrive in a Class 10 book written to an older, more procedural pattern. Some students find that a relief. Others, especially those who were taught to explore, find the sudden emphasis on standard methods and set question types disorienting.

Practically: material written for Class 10 over the last several years still matches your child's book, unlike in Classes 6 to 9. Sample papers, past questions and older guide books remain usable. That is a genuine advantage of the board year, and it makes free past papers the highest-value resource available to you.

All fourteen chapters, what each really demands under exam conditions, and the earlier idea it stands on. The third column is where the marks actually go.

Read the third column again. Not one entry says Class 10. Every chapter in the board year stands on something from Classes 6 to 9, which is why a child who is losing marks broadly across the paper usually has one or two old ideas failing everywhere rather than fourteen chapters to relearn.

Because knowing and performing are different things, and the board paper measures performance. Class 10 questions are long. Each one contains several steps of Class 8 and Class 9 algebra before it reaches anything Class 10 specific. If that algebra is slow or unreliable, the child spends their attention on bookkeeping and has none left for the part being examined, then runs out of time and finishes with three questions untouched.

This is why more Class 10 revision often produces no improvement. Revising Chapter 8 again does not make expanding brackets faster, and expanding brackets was the bottleneck. Parents interpret the flat result as the child not trying, which is usually unfair and always unhelpful.

The second cause is presentation. Board marking rewards visible method. A child who does the middle steps in their head loses method marks even when the final answer is right, and this is entirely fixable in a fortnight by marking two of their own papers against a marking scheme.

The chain below is what SwaVid's curriculum model looks for in a Class 10 learner. It is a model of prerequisite structure, not a claim about any individual student.

Class 9 Exploring Algebraic Identities → Quadratic Equations and Polynomials

The child reaches for the quadratic formula every time because they cannot see the factorisation. Correct answers, far too slowly.

Class 8 proportional reasoning → Trigonometry and Triangles

Ratios are recited as words rather than understood as relationships, so any non-standard configuration produces a blank.

Class 6 to 7 fraction and integer fluency → Coordinate Geometry, Areas Related to Circles, Surface Areas and Volumes

The method is right and the arithmetic is wrong, repeatedly, especially with negatives and fractions of pi.

Class 8 and 9 habits of written reasoning → Triangles and Circles proofs

The child sees the answer and writes only the conclusion, losing the method marks that were most of the question.

Reading comprehension of worded problems → Applications of Trigonometry, Arithmetic Progressions, Probability

The child can do the Maths once the equation is written and cannot get from the paragraph to the equation.

The sentence we hear most about Class 10 is: she knows everything, she just cannot finish the paper. Taken literally, that sentence is the diagnosis. It says the problem is speed and fluency, not knowledge, and it means the money should go to practice rather than to teaching.

Categories, not brands. In Class 10 the deciding factor is how much time is left, so read the last column as a calendar rather than a preference.

This table describes categories of product, not named companies. We do not publish claims about another company's price, features or quality that we cannot verify, and we do not rank apps.

SwaVid is a diagnosis-first AI learning platform for Indian students in Classes 6 to 10, covering CBSE and NCERT Maths and Science, sold to families. Class 10 is the year in which we are most often the wrong purchase, and it would be dishonest to write this page without leading with that.

A reasonable fit

The wrong choice

If you take one thing from this page, take the free version: give a full past paper under time, mark it yourself, and sort the lost marks into did not know, too slow, or wrote it badly. If almost everything lands in the second and third piles, keep your money.

A concrete sequence that costs nothing and produces a real decision by the weekend.

- Class 9 Exploring Algebraic Identities → Quadratic Equations and Polynomials The child reaches for the quadratic formula every time because they cannot see the factorisation. Correct answers, far too slowly.
- Class 8 proportional reasoning → Trigonometry and Triangles Ratios are recited as words rather than understood as relationships, so any non-standard configuration produces a blank.
- Class 6 to 7 fraction and integer fluency → Coordinate Geometry, Areas Related to Circles, Surface Areas and Volumes The method is right and the arithmetic is wrong, repeatedly, especially with negatives and fractions of pi.
- Class 8 and 9 habits of written reasoning → Triangles and Circles proofs The child sees the answer and writes only the conclusion, losing the method marks that were most of the question.
- Reading comprehension of worded problems → Applications of Trigonometry, Arithmetic Progressions, Probability The child can do the Maths once the equation is written and cannot get from the paragraph to the equation.
- A Class 10 student who blanks on the same question type in every paper, all year, rather than losing marks evenly.
- A child whose Class 8 and 9 algebra is genuinely not there, with at least a full term before boards.
- A parent who wants to know whether the problem is knowledge or speed before spending on coaching.
- A student who wants to understand trigonometry as ratios rather than survive it by memorising values.
- The last eight weeks before boards. At that point use past papers, timed practice and marking schemes.
- Exam strategy, paper attempt order, presentation and marking-scheme technique. We do not teach any of it.
- A child who knows the content and cannot finish the paper. That is a speed problem and drilling beats diagnosis.
- Any expectation of a predicted board score. We do not forecast marks and will not.
- Subjects other than Maths and Science, or Classes 11 and 12.
- Give one full past paper, timed, with no help and no phone. Resist shortening it: stamina is part of what you are measuring.
- Mark it yourself against the marking scheme rather than the answer key, so you can see where method marks were lost separately from wrong answers.
- Sort every lost mark into three piles: did not know how to start, knew but ran out of time, knew but presented it badly. The largest pile is your plan.
- If the largest pile is did not know, look at whether the blanks cluster. Trigonometry and similar triangles together point to proportional reasoning from Class 8; quadratics and polynomials together point to Class 9 identities.
- If and only if the blanks cluster, and there is at least a term left, run the free Learning Debt Identifier on that chapter. It returns a repair order naming the earlier idea, not a score. If the blanks do not cluster, spend the time on more papers instead.
